I can’t believe it’s already that time of year! The summer is officially over and it’s time to get ready to go back to school. In this edition of Winning Back to School I am going to focus on three things to make sure you include in your kids’ backpack. School is an amazing place for our kids to learn, make friends, and have fun. Unfortunately, it is also a place that harbors a lot of germs. That is why we must make sure that our kids have: 1) hand sanitizer, 2) tissues, and 3) bandaids.
1) While hand sanitizer doesn’t replace proper hand-washing, it is a great tool for it’s effective and easy to use. All too often we don’t we rush washing our hands. According to the CDC washing your hands should take over a minute, including scrubbing your hands for at least twenty seconds. Using hand sanitizer is a good way to clean our hands quickly. Make sure your kid gets in the habit of using hand sanitizer when they can’t wash their hands before eating and after playing outside.
2) Most classrooms will have a box of tissues in it, but it is still important to include a small travel-sized tissue pack in your kids’ bag. That way if your kid has to sneeze and isn’t in the classroom, or doesn’t have time to get to the tissue box, they will still have tissues. Those tissues can also be used to wipe off a seat or desk.
3) It’s really important to include a small bag with bandaids. Obviously your kid should go to the nurse if something serious happens, but if they get a minor scratch it’s really helpful if they have their own supplies.
Do you include hand sanitizer, tissues, and bandaids in your kids’ bag? What else do you make sure is packed? Stay tuned for Winning Back to School… Part 2!
